Frequently Asked Questions

How does the service work?

Your appointment will take approximately 30-35 minutes. Our clinician will ask a few questions about your ear health and your hearing, then examine your ears using an otoscope - a small magnifying glass with a light. If there is wax that needs to be removed, the clinician will gently remove it using a gentle irrigation tool. This is a device which features a highly powerful magnifier to see inside your ear canal, alongside safe water pressure to gently push water into the ear canal to clear wax out. To secure an appointment, simply pay for your preferred AM or PM slot online.

Where can I have my appointment?

Our clinician will complete the appointment in your home. Once you have secured your AM or PM slot, they will call you to confirm the exact time of their visit during that time period. This services covers homes in the following postcode areas: BA2, BA3, BA11, BA5, BA4, BS27 & BS39.

Can I remove earwax myself at home?

Trying to remove earwax at home is not recommended. To treat ear wax safely, we recommend that you see a professional who is experienced in removing ear wax. They’ll be able to understand your general hearing health, examine the outer ear, the ear canal and drum, and the ear wax to decide on the best course of treatment in order to safely remove it. You should never put things into your ears, including cotton buds, as they can damage the ear drum and canal, and push wax further into your ear.

What can happen if I leave earwax?

In most people, your body can remove earwax naturally without assistance. However in some people, help is needed to remove too much wax, or clear impacted or hardened earwax. Symptoms of excess ear wax can include tinnitus or ringing in the ears, earache, dizziness, hearing loss and itching in the ear.

How do I book an appointment?

Arranging an appointment is simple. Simply use the booking calendar on this page to see the current availability, then choose your preferred date and timeslot, either in the morning between 9am-12pm or the afternoon between 1pm-4pm. Once selected, you will need to checkout and pay to secure it. Once booked, the clinician will contact you to confirm the exact time they expect to be with you, based on the travel time and their availability.

What if I need to change my appointment details?

That's no problem. Simply give us a call on 01225 444144 between 9am-5pm, Monday to Friday, and we will help you to change your appointment details.

What if I need to cancel?

Please call us on 01225 444144 to discuss your appointment and our Customer Service team will be able to help you.

What if you don't find any wax in my ears?

Sometimes hearing problems can be caused by issues other than wax. Our audiologist will complete a thorough check of your ears as part of the consultation. If no wax is found, they will advise you on possible next steps. In this instance, if we do not need to remove wax, you will only pay for the consultation which costs £25. Please contact us to discuss further if this is the case for you.

How often should I get my ears checked or wax removed?

Everyone develops different amounts of wax, and at different speeds. While some people need regular appointments to manage their earwax, others never experience any issues and don’t require any medical assistance. If you’re worried about the amount of earwax your body is producing, it’s a good idea to contact your GP or local hearing health professional as they will be able to assess your ears and recommend the best treatment for you.

How can I keep my ears clean at home?

To keep your earwax soft and enable it to fall out naturally, we recommend applying olive or almond oil into your ears every week for 5-10 minutes. You can also buy ear drops from the pharmacist that will help to keep your ears clear.

What if my problems are not resolved?

If you do not feel like your ear problems have been resolved after your appointment, we recommend visiting your GP to discuss further. The audioloist will be able to provide guidance during your appointment for what to expect. Remember, sometimes people require several appointments to completely clear the ear canal, and wax build-up can be a recurring issue, so you may need to attend more than one appointment to solve your problems.
